La idea de escribir este artículo la tuvimos el 19 de junio del 2021 cuando, habiendo pasado más de un año en pandemia, quisimos abrir la discusión acerca de los problemas que afrontamos por causa de esta perturbación global. Lo dejamos en el tintero porque vimos que todavía faltaba tiempo para ver cómo saldríamos de esta transición.
Quisimos compartir cómo cada hora invertida con nuestros clientes ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora; se aprende de lo que otros hacen y funciona, y también se aprende lo que se ha hecho y tal vez no se deba volver a hacer. En los últimos 3 años, no hace falta repetirlo, los negocios han tenido que afrontar retos y dificultades sin precedente.
El contexto Económico, Político y Social
De acuerdo con Statista, el GDP mundial se redujo en 3.4% en 2020 y en 2021 empezó a retornar a niveles de crecimiento. Pero sin dar tregua, en 2022 y el 2023, factores como la guerra en Ucrania , los cambios en el crecimiento económico en China y el efecto de tecnologías como la Inteligencia Artificial contribuyen al sentimiento de inestabilidad e incertidumbre que amenazan con más retos a todas las escalas sociales. Hay que reconocer que todo esto no es transitorio, sino una realidad de cambio permanente.
Así pues, muchos han debido correr antes de caminar y ha sido necesario adaptarse para sobrevivir con mucha más agilidad que antes. Sin duda, la realidad actual ha sido una prueba tras otra de resiliencia y de cambios.
Es sorprendente que en tan poco tiempo las circunstancias pusieron de cabeza al mundo entero y a muchos, como nosotros, nos invitó a reflexionar en muchos paradigmas y prioridades en la vida y en los negocios.
El Sentimiento General y la Reacción al Cambio
A estas alturas, bastante se ha dicho, escrito y pensado, acerca del impacto del COVID-19 en la sociedad y en la economía. Pero ni los eruditos, expertos y líderes del planeta pudieron prepararnos para lo que iba a ocurrir. Contra intuitivamente, habiendo acceso a tanta información de múltiples fuentes, la veracidad de lo que leemos y escuchamos se pone en duda ahora más que nunca porque “la verdad” está manchada de intereses subjetivos y de desconfianza. Como consecuencia, no muchos realizaron acciones coordinadas para darle cara a los problemas que venían en camino y cada bando decidió creer en lo que creía y hacer lo que quería con lo que sabía y con los recursos que tenía. El sentido de comunidad unió a muchos pero también dividió a tantos otros. No solo en Colombia sino en países donde se supone que instituciones y sociedad están en una mejor posición que la nuestra.
Y es que lo que pasó, y no termina de pasar, tiene muchos ángulos y depende de donde se mire. Para unos las oportunidades han sido bendiciones disfrazadas de dificultades, pero para otros el resultado ha sido una brecha más grande entre el éxito y el fracaso. Desafortunadamente, las circunstancias de cada quien nos pusieron a iniciar esta carrera de supervivencia bajo condiciones muy distintas.
Lecciones Aprendidas
Algo que pudimos validar con cientos de horas de trabajo con empresarios y trabajadores, es que todos nos vimos afectados y tuvimos que acomodarnos porque no había opción.
Por ejemplo, hemos visto cómo el comercio electrónico se convirtió en una necesidad y no en una alternativa. La oferta de bienes y servicios necesita presencia en el mundo digital. Sin esta visibilidad se pierden muchas oportunidades.
Entendimos que los cuellos de botella pueden ser devastadores para una organización; que la dependencia de únicos proveedores, cadenas de abastecimiento inflexibles, canales de distribución y base de clientes son riesgos muy costosos. Tener un plan B y un plan C no sobra. Las estrategias a corto, mediano y largo plazo deben tomarse muy en serio.
También vimos que la claridad de procesos e instrucciones de trabajo se pusieron a prueba cuando el trabajo debió hacerse desde casa y con más agilidad. Este ha sido uno de los puntos claves para tener éxito en ambientes de trabajo híbrido. La eficiencia del equipo de trabajo, la motivación para continuar contribuyendo al crecimiento de una organización dependen en gran manera del manejo que los líderes den a la colaboración efectiva con el recurso más valioso que puede tener una empresa: su gente.
Ahora, un poco más de un año después de haber “restablecido el orden”, un año después de haber puesto este hiato en la historia; ¿dónde estamos? ¿Qué lecciones aprendimos? Nos acomodamos? Mejoramos? O volvimos a nuestra “normalidad” del 2019?
Imposible ver esto como un alto en el camino. Para nosotros y nuestros clientes líderes fue más una llamada a despertar, un empujón para avanzar, un llamado de atención.
